For many people experiencing homelessness or severe hardship, their pet isn't "just a dog" or "just a cat."

They're protection, emotional support, unconditional love, and often the one reason someone finds the strength to keep going.

Too often, traditional shelters force people to make an impossible choice: surrender the animal they love or remain outside together.

We understand that choice.

We refuse to judge it.

Instead, we meet people exactly where they are—with compassion, respect, and real help.

Keeping Families Together

Our mission is simple:

Keep people and their pets together whenever it's safe to do so.

The bond between a person and their animal provides hope, stability, purpose, and unconditional love during life's hardest moments.

When we protect that bond, we aren't just helping an animal.

What We Do

Pay It Fur-Ward® provides hands-on assistance to people experiencing homelessness, housing instability, medical crises, financial hardship, domestic violence, and other difficult life circumstances.

Depending on each person's needs, we provide:

• Emergency hotel placements and temporary shelter

• Pet food and human food

• Veterinary care and emergency medical treatment

• Vaccinations, preventative care, and spay/neuter assistance

• Transportation to veterinary, medical, and social service appointments

• Hygiene supplies and everyday necessities

• Winter survival gear and summer heat relief supplies

• Leashes, collars, harnesses, crates, bowls, bedding, and other pet essentials

• Help obtaining identification and accessing community resources

• Connections to addiction recovery, mental health care, domestic violence services, veterans resources, and housing assistance

• Long-term advocacy and individualized case management

• Emergency disaster response and evacuations for both people and their pets

Every situation is different.

That's why we never believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We take the time to know the people we serve and walk alongside them as they build a path toward stability.

More Than Charity

Many of the people we've helped have gone on to become volunteers, advocates, employees, mentors, and supporters themselves.

We've watched individuals overcome addiction, secure employment, find permanent housing, reunite with family, and rebuild their lives—all without losing the pets who never gave up on them.

Your Donation at Work

Every dollar you give immediately goes to work helping Colorado Springs' most vulnerable people and their pets.

Under $10

Puts gas in the tank so we can spend another day in the field reaching people and animals who need us most.

$10–$24

Keeps us moving while providing food for pets or people during a day of outreach.

$25–$49

Funds an entire day of outreach—fuel, food for both people and pets, and bottled water for those living outside.

$50–$99

Keeps our outreach mission operating for one to two full days, covering every essential supply needed in the field.

$100–$249

Helps sustain nearly a week of daily outreach, allowing us to continue showing up where we're needed most.

$250+

Provides roughly a month of daily outreach, ensuring we can continue serving Colorado Springs' most vulnerable people and their pets every single day.

No matter the amount, every donation becomes food in a bowl, gas in the tank, emergency supplies in our truck, veterinary care for a sick animal, or hope for someone who's been forgotten.
